Dr. Karthik Panchabikesan is a Research Engineer in the Buildings research division at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) since January 2023. Before joining FSEC, Karthik was working as Scientific Editor for Elsevier. Karthik completed his postdoc training in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Concordia University, Montreal from January 2018 to September 2021. In his Ph.D., Karthik worked on the application of integrated cooling system (phase change material-based free-cooling system and evaporative cooling system) to achieve energy savings in buildings. During his postdoc, Karthik learned and worked on the application of data-driven tools to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. In his postdoc, he worked on building energy-related data analysis, the application of data mining in building science, and extracting inputs related to thermostats, appliance load, and occupancy for building energy simulation.
Research Focus:
Karthik's research interests are working with big data, time-series analysis, the application of data mining in buildings for energy savings and enhancing energy efficiency and latent heat thermal energy storage systems.
Karthik is a recipient of a few prestigious awards including 1) Buildings Travel Award 2021 by MDPI, 2) HORIZON Fellowship by Concordia University in 2018, 3) Building Energy Efficiency Higher & Advanced Network (BHAVAN) Fellowship by IUSSTF 2016, 4) the DST INSPIRE Fellowship by DST, Government of India for 5 years (2013-2018), 5) Certificate of Appreciation from Dean, Anna University for publishing in high impact factor journal in the department for the year 2017 and 6) University Rank in M.Tech, 2012.
