More than 50 percent of Florida’s electricity is used in its 14 million plus residences. The energy provisions of the Florida Building Code have been a key tool in achieving statewide increases in residential energy efficiency. Since the late 70s, the state of Florida has called upon FSEC to conduct buildings research that evaluates opportunities to improve Florida’s building energy code. This research has resulted in recommended building codes and standards changes that have significantly increased residential energy efficiency.
